Merseyway Shopping Centre Stockport, UK

Merseyway Shopping Centre opened in 1965 and was renovated in 1995. The entrance to the centre is from Stockport Bus Station on the A6 from Manchester.

Merseyway Shopping Centre is built over the River Mersey on stilts and effectively the construction changed the historic heart of the town, many would argue for the worst.

Merseyway Shopping Centre has the usual array of shops found on most British high streets including Marks & Spencer, BHS, Argos, Debenhams, Primark, Boots, Mothercare, Next, McDonalds and Superdrug. Sainsbury's and Asda are just to the east of the central walkway.

Merseyway is actually in receivership and is run by GVA.

Despite its prime location just off Great Pulteney Street, the Redcar Hotel has seen better days. This visitor  found carpets that were threadbare, and the mattress on the bed in my room was the worst I've ever slept on. Visitors to the hotel should check out the nearby Holburne Museum as well as the Bath Rugby grounds.

Chelsea Bridge Road is now one of London's most exclusive addresses and a man of Jerome K. Jerome's modest means would no longer be able to afford the exorbitant rents of properties in the area nowadays. A one bedroom apartment on Chelsea Bridge Road costs around 1.6 million pounds (2014 prices).

Chelsea Bridge Road is close to the River Thames, Chelsea Bridge, Chelsea Physic Garden, the Saatchi Gallery, the Lister Hospital, the Royal Hospital Chelsea, the National Army Museum and Ranelagh Gardens.
